Promoting Milwaukee Art Museum’s Calatrava addition, debunking city’s “beer and brats” image
On the verge of opening world-famous architect Santiago Calatrava’s first building in the U.S., the Milwaukee Art Museum tapped Buzz Monkeys to help spread the word. The team worked to secure regional and national coverage, helping put Milwaukee on the map as a travel destination and positioning the Milwaukee Art Museum as the city’s new cultural icon.
A strong media relations program generated more than 20 million impressions, and a grand opening event was attended by 4,000 people, including dozens of reporters from around the country. These newly developed media contacts provided the Museum ongoing opportunities for coverage and attention in subsequent years, driving traffic to the permanent collection and traveling exhibitions.
